Parent Visa Applications in this category are taking approx. 17 years to process.
You must be sponsored by an eligible sponsor. Usually, your child will sponsor you, you must have a commitment by a person prepared to provide you with an Assurance of Support bond for 2 years and your spouse must meet the ‘Balance of Family Test'. If you are an aged parent you can apply for this visa from within Australia however, to do so, you must hold a substantive visa and additional eligible criteria will also apply Contributory Parent Visa If you pay the Health Contribution charge for a visa in this category, the time taken to process it is substantially reduced to approx 1.5 years. The criteria that must be met is the same as that for the ‘Parent’ visa, but the Assurance of Support bond in this category is for 10 years. Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa The eligible qualifying criteria is the same as that which applies to an applicant for a Contributory Parent visa, however the Health Contribution Charge may be paid to the Department in 2 installments up to 2 years apart. The Assurance of Support bond only becomes due for payment at the permanent approval stage (up to 2 years after the initial grant). Partner/Spouse Visa For the spouse, prospective spouse (financé(e)) or interdependent partner of a settled, Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. You must be sponsored by your eligible partner and you must demonstrate a relationship of at least 12 months with your partner for a Spouse or Interdependent Visa. Prospective Marriage Visa applicants can only apply from outside Australia and additional eligible criteria applies when you arrive. Child Visa For the natural child, adopted child or stepchild of an Australian citizen, holder of a permanent visa or an eligible New Zealand citizen. The child must be single, under 25 years of age and sponsored (step children have additional criteria). Adopted children cannot apply for this visa if they were adopted after their sponsor arrived in Australia. If the child is aged between 18 and 25 years of age he/she must be your dependent or a be full-time student. Adoption Visa For children from overseas who have been, or about to be, adopted by an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent visa holder, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. For adoptive parents living in Australia the relevant Australian State or Territory Adoption Authority must be involved in managing the adoption process with the overseas country where the child is living. For adoptive parents living overseas you must have been living overseas for the 12 months before applying for this visa and your residence overseas was not solely to adopt a child. The adoption is/was in accordance with the laws of the country in which the child lives and the adoption gives you full and permanent parental rights (i.e. the adoption severs the legal ties between the child and its birth parents).OR you have adopted the child under an arrangement between two (2) Hague Convention countries other than Australia. Privately arranged adoptions are generally not supported. Dependent Child Visa This temporary visa is for a natural, adopted or step-child, whose parent holds a temporary partner visa. You must sponsored by the same person who sponsored your parent and you must be under 18 years of age (there are exceptions).You must be single and you must apply for this visa before your parent’s permanent visa application if finalised. Orphan Relative Visa For children from overseas whose parents are deceased, permanently incapacitated, or whose whereabouts are unknown and who have an eligible sponsor. Your relative in Australia must be a brother, sister, grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew and also a settled, Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.This visa can be applied for within Australia or offshore, you must be sponsored by one of the above persons and you must be under 18 years of age be single, not married or in a de facto relationship. An Assurance of Support (AoS) may be required. Remaining Relative Visa For people who have their only near relatives resident in Australia who are settled, Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens and are sponsored by the eligible relative or their spouse.You must be the remaining brother, sister, parent or step equivalent and you or your spouse have no brothers, sisters, children, parents (or step equivalents) other that those in Australia. You must have an Assurance of Support (AoS). Aged Dependent Relative Visa For aged persons who rely on a relative in Australia for all, or most, of their living costs. The applicant must be sponsored by their relative in Australia. You must be aged (age requirements apply) and you must be financially dependent on the relative in Australia., you must be single, having never married, or be widowed, divorced or formally separated from your spouse. Carer Visa For people who are needed to care for an Australian relative or a member of their family unit who has a medical condition. Your relative must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen who must also be your spouse, child, parent, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew (or step-equivalent) and usually be resident in Australia. You must be sponsored by this relative or their spouse. NOTE: The type of care you provide must be of a type which cannot reasonably be obtained from any other relative or from welfare, hospital, nursing or community services in Australia. New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship Visa For family members of Special Category visa holders who are not eligible for a Special category visa themselves because they are not New Zealand citizens. You must be related to the Special Category visa holder as either, their spouse, their (or their spouse's) dependent child, the dependent child of their (or their spouse's) dependent child, their (or their spouse's) relative who meets all of the following: is widowed, divorced, separated or has never married, is usually resident in the Special Category visa holder's household and is dependent on the Special Category visa holder.
